50 Years of Excellence
08 June 2024
This year marks a significant milestone for British School Jakarta (BSJ) as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Embracing the theme of Belonging, BSJ has orchestrated a series of memorable events to honour its half-century legacy of education excellence and community spirit.
The celebrations kicked off with a royal visit from HRH Prince Edward, marking his second visit in connection with the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. This was followed by the burial of a time capsule to be opened in 2049, symbolising the school's forward-thinking vision.
BSJ also set a MURI World Record with a ‘Dance Performance with 50 Nationalities,’ showcasing its diverse community. Other events included a biathlon and bazaar, festive 50th sales, and a song competition themed around Belonging. Additionally, BSJ organised conferences for South Tangerang schools and special literacy and kindergarten teaching sessions.
A highlight of the celebrations was the 50th Gala Dinner held on June 8 at the Shangri-La Hotel. This prestigious event was attended by former school leaders, delegations from FOBISIA leadership, staff members, and honourable guests. The evening featured impressive orchestra performances by BSJ students, adding a touch of elegance and showcasing the school’s rich talent.
As BSJ looks forward to the next 50 years, the school remains dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging, community, and academic excellence, building on its rich history and preparing for an innovative future.
