British School Jakarta Model United Nations Conference 2025
BSJMUN 2025 Secretariat
British School Jakarta’s annual Model United Nations (BSJMUN) 2025 took place from February 7th to 9th, marking its sixth iteration. As our largest and most ambitious conference to date, BSJMUN 2025 welcomed approximately 200 participants from 26 schools across the wider Jakarta region. Our Secretariat began shaping the vision for this event back in November, working tirelessly to ensure it became a platform for diplomatic debate, intellectual growth, and meaningful collaboration for both beginners and experienced delegates alike.
The theme ‘Power, Politics, and the Failure of Diplomacy’ provided a thought-provoking backdrop that challenged delegates to confront pressing global issues, question the efficacy of current diplomatic efforts, and explore alternative solutions. The Secretariat carefully curated seven councils and topics, ranging from the U.S.-China trade war to women’s role in governance, allowing for a diverse range of perspectives to be explored over the course of this conference.
This conference successfully fostered engaging debates, policy drafting, and consensus-building. Delegates gained a deeper understanding of international relations and the complexities of diplomacy, which marked an invaluable step in everyone’s journeys as future world leaders. Several resolutions were passed, showcasing innovative solutions to real-world challenges. In addition to mastering the art of diplomacy, students honed their public speaking, research, and collaborative skills. Moreover, this conference promoted a wide range of networking opportunities, as a true simulation of the face of diplomacy and leadership in the real world.
Mrs. Yenny Wahid: Keynote speaker
Other than our wide range of participants, BSJMUN 2025 invited several notable leaders in our world today. Our Guest Speakers for this conference, who shared their invaluable insights on our conference theme and connected topics, include: Mrs Yenny Wahid, Mr Ardi Sutedja, Ms Cynthia Sipahutar, Ms Astari Minarti, and Mr Somil Nagpal. This group represents a share of professionals in the field of academia, leaders in the United Nations, and owners of prominent companies in Indonesia today, for whom the Secretariat extends an immeasurable debt of gratitude. We are also honoured to extend our utmost gratitude to our sponsors: Amazon Web Services, Red Pumpkin AI, Rotiboy, Hatiku Floral Art, and all other vendors, along with our media partners: the ACS Jakarta Model Congress Club, the Global Diplomat Society, and the IICS MUN Club who played an instrumental role in the success of this event.
A major highlight of BSJMUN 2025 is the Refugee Learning Center delegation, with half of their students receiving a verbal commendation and everyone leaving the conference having learned something new. This key achievement was the result of training sessions led by BSJ students and the unwavering resilience of the RLC delegation throughout the entire conference preparation stage. Following the closure of BSJMUN, students in the RLC have stated that “[BSJMUN] was really fun, I hope to join again” and that they “would like to attend again in BSJMUN 2026”, acting as a testament to their newfound appreciation for public speaking, academic research, and diplomacy as a whole.
Furthermore, this conference would not have been possible without the efforts of so many, who continuously dedicated time and effort to make this conference successful. Our Chairs, fourteen students across the wider Jakarta region, facilitated engaging and inclusive debates while imparting their extensive knowledge on their respective council topics. Our Secretariat and conference volunteers, encompassing a total of thirty seven dedicated individuals, remained committed to ensuring every aspect of this conference, from the execution of our goals to the management of involved parties, runs smoothly and efficiently. The guidance and support this team received from our BSJMUN teacher advisors, Ms Regina, Ms Wong, Ms Birch, and Pak Kamal, made all the difference in the exceptional performance of this conference.
BSJMUN Club Members at the Conference
In the lead-up to the event, BSJ students conducted training sessions to help delegates prepare for the intensity of MUN debates. These sessions covered everything from writing position papers to mastering the art of public speaking, ensuring that all participants entered the conference with confidence and adequate preparation. This conference was envisioned through BSJ’s commitment to providing a purposeful and inclusive learning environment for everyone involved, which undoubtedly was successfully executed over the course of the conference. The intellectual depth and passion of all participants defined BSJMUN 2025, reinforcing the Secretariat’s vision of diplomacy as a force for real-world change - far beyond their council rooms. Many alumni of BSJMUN have gone to become leaders in various fields of the world; we are all immensely proud that BSJMUN 2025 creates a foundation and continues to build on this legacy, inspiring the next generation of changemakers. We hope that BSJMUN serves as a platform that continues to grow with many years to come.
